Scope
This standard covers the requirements for zinc coatings (galvanized) by the hot-dip process of iron and steel products, straps, profiles, castings, plates and bars, manufactured by rolling, pressing and forging processes. 2 This standard covers both finished and intermediate products, for example, assembled steel products, structural steel constructions, large tubes already bent or welded before galvanizing, and wire as a finished product manufactured from coated steel wire. This standard also covers wrought steel and iron castings incorporated into parts manufactured before galvanizing or that are too large to employ the spinning process (or otherwise manipulated to remove excess metal during the galvanizing bath). . Note 1. This standard supersedes ASTMA12378 and ASTM A3867B. 3 This standard does not apply to wire, pipe or steel sheets that are galvanized in specialized or continuous lines. It also does not apply to steel less than 22 gauge (0.76 mm) (0.0299 in).
