Scope
This specification is formulated to prevent canal system projects from being damaged by frost heaving of the base soil. All canal projects that comply with Article 1.0.2 must be designed to resist frost heave in accordance with the requirements of this code. This specification does not apply to freeze damage problems caused by freezing and thawing of materials, ice pressure, etc. Other hydraulic structures that may be damaged by frost heaving of foundation soil may refer to this specification. This specification is applicable to lined channels in areas where the standard freezing depth of sub-seasonal frozen soil is greater than 30cm and other canal structures in areas where the standard freezing depth is greater than 50cm.
