Scope
This publication serves as a guide for those involved in the design and construction of new construction platforms and the relocation of existing platforms for oil and gas drilling, production and storage in offshore areas. In addition, guidance is provided on the assessment of existing platforms to determine, where necessary, whether the structure is "fit for its purpose". Before starting the actual design, careful planning should be done so that a practical and economical offshore platform can be built that can fulfill its intended functions. Preliminary planning should include all criteria by which the platform design will be determined. The design criteria used here include all operating requirements and environmental conditions that may affect the detailed design of the platform. This recommended practice incorporates and largely adopts existing codes and standards accepted for engineering design and practice from a public safety perspective.
