- This standard specifies the mechanical, physical and magnetic properties of unlubricated disk platters. It is used in data storage devices. This standard stipulates the specific requirements for this disc so that it can have good performance at 107,500 flux flips per track. To obtain the same performance when used at other densities, such as 161,250 flux flips per channel, the mechanical, magnetic and electrical specifications must be changed. Two types A and B are specified. The magnetic properties of both types are identical and are referenced to the same standard datum. The only difference between them is the outer diameter and some related data. When a disc meets all requirements of Type A or Type B, the disc is consistent with this standard.
