1.1 This requirement applies to long-term test procedures for evaluating materials used as specialty parts in final products. 1.2 These studies, together with the requirements mentioned in Chapter 2, provide information on the physical, electrical, combustion, thermal and other characteristics of the materials under investigation. It is intended to provide guidance to material manufacturers, molders, end product manufacturers, safety engineers, and other interested parties and individuals. 1.3 When a product contains new or different performance, features, components, materials, or systems that were used when standards were established in the past, and also contains a risk of fire, electric shock, or other personal injury, appropriate additional component requirements and final product requirements should be adopted requirements to assess and achieve the necessary safety level determined to be original when the standard was established and to be maintained by users of the product
