1.1 These requirements specified in this standard apply to thermal cutouts intended to be embedded in the windings or to be used independently in the end product. 1.2 The acceptability of a thermal interrupter for use in any particular device or equipment depends on the ability of the thermal interrupter to be used continuously under the prevailing conditions encountered in actual use. For a particular application, the thermal cutout may be affected by the requirements of the above-mentioned devices or equipment, and it may be necessary to use a thermal cutout with other properties than those specified in this standard. The fact that a thermal cutout meets the requirements of this standard does not conclude that the thermal cutout can be used as a component of the final product without further evaluation. 1.3 When a product contains new or different performance, characteristics, components, materials, or systems that were used in the past when the standard was established, and also contains a risk of fire, electric shock, or personal injury, appropriate additional component requirements and final product requirements should be used. An assessment shall be made and these requirements shall be additional requirements determined to be necessary to maintain the level of safety for users of the product for which this standard was originally intended.
