- This standard specifies methods for measuring surface and interfacial tension using the hanging drop method, pendant drop method and rotating drop method. The hanging plate method is suitable for measuring the surface tension of general liquids or the interfacial tension between liquid and liquid when the density difference between two-phase fluids is not greater than 0.4g/cm3. Its effective measurement range is 5~100mN/m. The hanging drop method is suitable for measuring the interfacial tension between immiscible liquid-liquid or liquid-gas phases, and its effective measurement range is 10-1~102mN/m. The rotating drop method is suitable for the determination of low interfacial tension between two-phase liquids in which the high-density phase is transparent. Its effective measurement range is 1~10-5mN/m.
