Scope
This standard specifies an ultrasonic inspection method for detecting bond defects between bearing alloys and backings. This standard is applicable to the inspection of metal multi-layer sliding bearings composed of backing and lead-based and tin-based bearing alloys with a thickness of ≥0.5mm. This kind of inspection cannot be carried out in the area that is only half the diameter of the probe from the bearing edge, oil hole, oil groove, etc. Bearings with dovetail keyways at the bonding layer cannot be inspected along the edge of the dovetail coffin. The ultrasonic inspection method specified in this standard only qualitatively evaluates the bonding quality and cannot quantitatively determine the bonding strength. This standard only details the ultrasonic pulse reflection method with the probe placed on the alloy side of the bearing. Signal processing is similar when the probe is placed on the backing side. The sound energy reflected from the bonded surface area between the bearing alloy and the backing will be used to determine the quality of the bond.
