Scope
This standard specifies the technical requirements for the safety characteristics of telecommunications terminal equipment and specifies the corresponding test methods. The safety features specified in this standard relate to personal injury or property damage caused by the following hazards:  ——electric shock;  ——energy hazards;  ——fire;  ——mechanical hazards and thermal hazards;  ——radiation hazards;  ——chemical hazards. This standard applies to telecommunications terminal equipment connected to public telecommunications networks or private telecommunications networks, such as: various telephones, fax machines, modems, group telephones, user switches, etc. This standard applies to telecommunications terminal equipment with a rated voltage not exceeding 600V. This standard applies to Type A broadcastable telecommunications terminal equipment used in TN power distribution systems. This standard does not apply to equipment intended to be exposed to extremely high or low temperatures, excess dust, flammable gases, severe vibration, corrosion or equipment working in explosive environments.
