Scope
1.1 This specification is applicable to the manufacture of structural steel pipes formed from steel plates with longitudinal or circumferential butt welds. These steel pipes are suitable for the construction of offshore welded structures. Their common outer diameter is equal to or greater than 355.6mm (14in) and the wall thickness is equal to Or greater than 9.5mm (3/8in), [nominal length up to 12.19m (40ft)]. Electric resistance welded (ERW) method or spiral welded steel pipe is not covered by this specification. Steel pipes manufactured to this specification are mainly used for piles and major structural members that generally do not require internal stiffeners, including tubular truss connecting members. 1.2 Manufacturers who need to mark the API monogram on products that comply with this specification must submit relevant education, training, performance information and/or assessment results to the American Petroleum Institute and obtain approval to ensure that production personnel are competent in the requirements of this specification or Reference requirements on welding, inspection, non-destructive testing and testing.
