Scope
This recommended practice is a suggestion for fatigue analysis based on fatigue testing and fracture mechanics. The applicable conditions for recommended practices are described in 1.2 below. The purpose of fatigue design is to ensure that the structure has a fatigue life that meets the requirements. The calculated fatigue life is also the basis for implementing effective inspection methods during the manufacturing and use of structures. In order to ensure that the structure achieves its intended function, a fatigue assessment should be carried out on each individual component subjected to fatigue loads, and a detailed fatigue analysis should be carried out where appropriate, see 1.4. It should be noted that any structural unit or member, each welded node and welded accessory, or any form of stress concentration is a potential source of fatigue cracks and should therefore be considered individually.
