Scope: "The VDI/VDE-Guideline ""Adaptive Controllers; Terms and Properties"" is intended to define and list terms and characteristics of adaptive control Instruments. It makes it possible for the manufacturer of such instruments to inform a user with the help of the characteristics listed what his product can do and for what application it can be used. For this purpose the terms needed for a description of adaptive control instruments are defined. The list of characteristic properties in Section 3 permits the non formalized description of the abilities of an adaptive control Instrument without undue restrictions. Furthermore the user of an adaptive control Instrument is given the possibility to compare the properties of various instruments by comparing the data supplied by the manufacturers and thereby to select the product suited to his control task. By the definitions given in this Guideline the exchange of Information between manufacturers and users is simplified very much."
