INTRODUCTION In October 1969@ SDC was asked by the CRC-APRAC Project Group CAPE-10 to reanalyze the data base gathered by the Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company (3M) during its survey of typical driving patterns in the Los Angeles metropolitan area. The survey was conducted by means of a telephone questionnaire. The original analysis of this data base was reported by 3M in July 1968.1 The objective of the reanalysis was to put the data in a format comparable to SDC's similar report on typical Los Angeles driving patterns.2 This volume reports the results of that reanalysis. In carrying out the reanalysis of the telephone survey data@ SDC prepared a computer program to reformat the data contained in the punched card data base into the format used by SDC's analytical programs. Once the data were reformatted@ the records were searched for logical and key punch errors. Where possible these errors were corrected. Where this could not be done@ the records containing erroneous data were removed entirely from the data base. In the original telephone survey study@ the size of the data base for the survey analysis varied depending upon the variable being analyzed. The maximum sample size reported for any variable was 2513 trips. The SDC program requires that each record be complete and valid. Editing necessary to remove erroneous records reduced the data base used by SDC to 2464 trips@ the total comprised of 1773 weekday trips and 691 weekend trips. 1 W. A.
