This standard specifies the minimum requirements for the qualification and certification of personnel engaged in non-destructive testing (NDT) in the civil aircraft manufacturing, operation, maintenance and overhaul industries. This standard applies to the general NDT methods for processing or evaluating materials, products, parts, and assemblies using liquid penetrant testing (PT), magnetic particle testing (MT), eddy current testing (ET), ultrasonic testing (UT), and radiographic testing (CRT). and sub-assembly personnel; also applies to personnel directly responsible for NDT technology, NDT technology external auditors, and NDT technology training personnel. This standard does not apply to NDT managers other than those listed above, nor to researchers engaged in the development of NDT technology, even if the technology they develop is subsequently approved for use by certified Level 3 personnel. This standard also applies to nondestructive testing personnel using other NDT methods. These methods include but are not limited to: acoustic emission inspection, neutron radiography inspection, leakage inspection, visual inspection, thermal imaging inspection, holographic interference inspection, computerized tomography inspection, etc. The training, experience and examination requirements for these methods may be formulated by a recognized NDT agency or the Civil Aviation Nondestructive Testing Personnel Qualification and Certification Committee in accordance with this standard.
