This method is applicable to metal materials and their protective layer samples. After corrosion tests are conducted in the laboratory and in the natural environment, the corrosion products on the surface of the sample are removed, and the corrosion rate is evaluated based on weight loss or thickness loss. For non-uniform corrosion such as pitting corrosion, stress corrosion, and intergranular corrosion, it is not appropriate to use weight or thickness loss to evaluate the corrosion rate.
