- Scope
- This standard specifies the general techniques and requirements for wet magnetic particle inspection of aerospace parts. It is a guiding technical document and the basis for formulating specific magnetic particle inspection processes. This standard is applicable to magnetic particle inspection of surface and near-surface defects of ferromagnetic material aviation parts (including raw materials, blanks, semi-finished products, parts, reworked parts and overhaul inspection parts, etc.). The main defects that can be found by magnetic particle inspection are: various cracks, inclusions (including hair lines), slag inclusions, folds, white spots, delamination, pores, incomplete welding, looseness, cold insulation, etc. This standard does not apply to materials with a maximum relative magnetic permeability μm lower than 40.
