Scope
This standard establishes the basic principles for sampling plan design, sampling techniques, sample preservation and management when evaluating the physical, chemical and microbiological characteristics of river water quality. This standard does not apply to estuary areas that enter the sea. It may be used as appropriate for canals and other inland water bodies with poor flow. Examination of sediments and biota requires specialized sampling methods and is not covered by this standard. When choosing a sampling method, you must first clarify the purpose of sampling. The purpose of river sampling usually includes the following: (1) To evaluate the water quality of the river; (2) To determine whether the river water can be used as a drinking water source; (3) To determine whether the river water can be used as agricultural water, such as sprinkler irrigation and livestock and poultry water, etc. ; (4) Determine the suitability of the river water for maintaining and developing fisheries; (5) Determine the suitability of the river water for recreational uses, such as water sports and swimming; (6) Study the impact of sewage discharge or accidental leakage on the receiving water body; (7) Evaluate the impact of land use on river water quality; (8) Evaluate the impact of accumulation and release of pollutants in river bottom sediments on aquatic organisms and sediments; (9) Study the impact of water pumping, river water regulation and river water transportation The physical and chemical properties of river water and the impact on aquatic organisms; (10) Study the impact of construction projects such as the establishment and removal of weirs (dams) on rivers on water quality.
