Scope
This standard specifies chemical analysis methods for clay and bentonite used in castings. This standard is applicable to the determination of the following chemical components, cation exchange capacity, and exchangeable cation content in foundry clay and bentonite. The measurement range is as follows: Loss on ignition 0.5% to 15%; Silica 50% to 75%; Aluminum oxide 10% ~ 30%; Iron oxide 0.1% ~ 7%; Titanium oxide 0.05% ~ 2%; Calcium oxide 0.1% ~ 7% Magnesium oxide 0.1% ~ 7% Manganese oxide 0.01% ~ 0.1%; Potassium oxide 0.1% ~4% sodium oxide 0.1%~4%; cation exchange capacity 10~100m mol(NH|(4)^(+)/100 g soil; exchangeable calcium ions 1~60 m mol(1/2Ca^(2= ))/100 g soil; exchangeable magnesium ions 0.1~10 m mol(1/2Mg^(2+)/100 g soil; exchangeable sodium ions 1~60 m mol(Na^(+)/100 g soil; Exchangeable potassium ion 0.5~10 m mol(K^(+)/100 g soil.
