The test method specified in this standard is suitable for measuring the plane strain fracture toughness Kic of metals and alloy materials using three-point bending specimens or compact tensile specimens with a thickness of ≥6 mm at room temperature (25°C ± 10°C). This standard can also be referred to when Kic testing needs to be performed under high and low temperature conditions.
