This standard specifies certain characteristics of isoamyl butyrate to facilitate the evaluation of its quality. Isoamyl butyrate is synthesized by esterification reaction of isoamyl alcohol and n-butyric acid separated from fusel oil using sulfuric acid as catalyst. Isoamyl butyrate is mainly used to prepare food flavors. This standard refers to the American Essential Oils Association standard EOA 111-79 "Amyl Butyrate".
