- This standard specifies the classification and naming, requirements, test methods, inspection rules, marking, packaging, storage, etc. of blowout preventers. This standard also stipulates the classification, requirements and test methods of drilling spools matched with BOPs [Appendix A (Appendix of the Standard)]. This standard applies to the design, manufacture and inspection of blowout preventers and matching drilling spools used in oil and natural gas drilling and workovers.
