- Scope
- This standard specifies a test method for estimating the strength of aggregates subjected to weathering when used in concrete or other applications. This method involves repeatedly immersing the pellets in a saturated sodium sulfate or magnesium sulfate solution, and then drying the sulfate precipitated in the gaps of the pellets until it is partially or completely dehydrated. The expansion force of salts upon repeated immersion simulates the expansion of water during freezing.
