- This standard specifies a test method for determining the volumetric specific gravity and density of compacted asphalt mixtures using saturated surface dry specimens. Remarks 1: The definition of volume specific gravity is in accordance with the provisions of Section 5 of NS 487 Test Method for Specific Gravity and Water Absorption of Fine Aggregates. 2: This standard is only applicable to compacted asphalt mixtures with dense gradation or actual non-water absorption. 3: The volumetric specific gravity of compacted asphalt mixture can also be used to determine the unit weight of asphalt mixture.
