- This standard applies to the services provided by the network layer to the transport layer between the network layer and the transport layer of the Open Systems Interconnection Reference Model. This standard provides the definition of existing network services that support transport protocols to transport protocol designers, and also provides the definition of feasible services to network protocol designers through the network protocol functions of the underlying services.
