Scope

1.1 This standard applies to the safety of medical electrical equipment. Although this standard is primarily concerned with safety, it also contains certain provisions related to operational reliability and safety. Safety hazards caused by the intended physiological functions of the equipment are not considered in this standard. The appendices to this standard are not mandatory unless specified in the main provisions.
