Scope
This standard specifies a method for determining the effectiveness of mineral admixtures or blast furnace ballast powder (hereinafter referred to as ballast powder) in preventing excessive expansion caused by alkaline reactions between aggregates and Portland cement mixtures. When evaluating the effectiveness, it is based on the amount of expansion developed by the cement mortar rods. The cementing material used in the cement mortar rods is a combination of Portland cement and mineral admixtures or furnace ballast powder, and the granular material is borosilicate (Pyre).
