Introduction

Analysis of the core content of the standard

This technical specification defines the intercommunication architecture between the extended DNS (EDNS) and the CDN global load balancing (GSLB), focusing on solving the problem of insufficient positioning accuracy of traditional DNS in edge computing scenarios. The EDNS Client Subnet (ECS) extended field carries the real IP information of the terminal, realizing the precise scheduling of CDN nodes.

Comparison of key technologies

Technical dimensions Traditional DNS Extended DNS (EDNS)
Positioning accuracy Depends on Local DNS IP Terminal real IP subnet
NAT penetration Unable to identify terminal Supports ECS address transparent transmission
Scheduling granularity City level Access network Edge node level

Typical application scenarios

IPTV video service, when the user accesses through the home gateway (NAT device):

  1. The terminal initiates a query to the Local DNS that supports ECS
  2. The recursive server carries the 10.10.10.1/24 subnet information in the EDNS OPT field
  3. CDN GSLB returns the nearest edge node IP according to the subnet affiliation
  4. The scheduling accuracy is improved by more than 60% (measured data)

Implementation Suggestions

Deployment Mode Selection

  • Small and medium-sized networks: Use the converged networking mode in Section 5.2.1 to upgrade the existing LDNS
  • High security isolation requirements: Use the independent deployment mode in Section 5.2.3

Key configuration parameters

ECS SOURCE_PREFIX-LENGTH recommended values: • IPv4: /24 ~ /28 • IPv6: /56 ~ /64
