Introduction

Standard Overview and Technology Evolution

AMS3044H is the eighth revision published by SAE International. Major updates include: new definitions of terms (Section 2.3), supplementation of material strength ranges under standard heat treatment (Section 3.2.5.2.1/3.2.5.2.2), and establishment of SI units as the primary system (Section 8.2). This standard specifically regulates dry powdered magnetic particles for use in wet fluorescent magnetic particle inspection systems.

Core Technical Requirements

Test Items Technical Requirements Test Methods
Particle Size ≥98% passing 45μm sieve ASTM E11 Sieving Method
Fluorescence Color Yellow-green (default) Observation under UV-A Light
Sensitivity Test Show at least 7 holes AS5282 Standard Test Ring

Detailed Explanation of Key Test Methods

1. Durability Test

Place 400mL of the test suspension in a stirrer at 10,000-12,000 rpm and stir in five cycles (2 minutes each, followed by 5 minutes of cooling). The sensitivity requirements must still be met after a total of 10 minutes.

2. Crack-Background Ratio Test

Use one of two types of specimens: SAE4130 or SAE4340 steel fatigue crack specimens, with the following requirements:

  • Surface roughness ≤ 0.4μm
  • Heat treatment strength 1240-1380MPa
  • Crack length 2.54-6.35mm

Implementation Recommendations

Key Points of Quality Control

  1. Each batch of products must undergo acceptance tests such as contamination, color, and particle size
  2. Suspension concentration must be controlled in the range of 0.10-0.40mL/100mL
  3. Particle dispersion must be re-verified after long-term storage

Safety Precautions

This standard does not explicitly involve the safe operation requirements of materials. Users must conduct their own assessments:

  • UV-A radiation protection (≥1000μW/cm²)
  • Handling of flammable solvents
  • Personal protective equipment configuration
