Key Technical Requirements

1. Test Equipment Specifications

The impact tester must comply with ISO 13802 verification requirements. Key points to note:

  • Pendulum Energy Selection: The energy absorbed by the specimen should be in the range of 10%-80% of the available energy
  • Clamping Force Control: For pressure sensitive materials, a torque wrench or pneumatic device should be used to standardize the clamping force
  • Impact Velocity: The standard specifies 3.5m/s (to be stated in the report)

2. Specimen Preparation Tips

Injection Molded Specimens should refer to ISO 294-1 standard, special attention:

  • Multi-cavity molds need to ensure the consistency of the size of the specimens in each cavity
  • Notch processing should preferably be mechanical processing (in line with ISO 2818)
  • The specimen surface must not have defects such as scratches and dents

Standard Update Highlights

Main revisions of the 2023 version:

  1. Added inter-laboratory comparison data for unnotched specimens (see Appendix A)
  2. Added reference to ISO 16012 standard (specimen size measurement)
  3. Updated the symbol system in the calculation formula
  4. Revised the method identification rules in Chapter 10

Implementation recommendations

Material applicability strategy

Material type Recommended specimen Special requirements
Long fiber reinforced materials No notch Test direction needs to be indicated
Thermotropic liquid crystal polymer No notch Controlled clamping pressure
Laminated sheets Notched type A 10 specimens in parallel/vertical directions

Test result processing

Report classified according to fracture type:

  • Type C: Complete fracture (including hinge fracture)
  • Type P: Partial fracture
  • Type N: No fracture

When the coefficient of variation is <5%, the minimum number of samples can be reduced to 5
