IEC 60676:2024 - Industrial electroheating equipment - Test methods for direct arc furnaces

Scope: This document specifies basic test procedures, conditions and methods for direct arc heated furnaces such as electric arc furnaces and ladle furnaces (LF) using alternating current (EAF AC) or direct current (EAF DC) with rated power levels exceeding 500 kVA. Measurements and tests used to verify the safety requirements of direct arc furnace equipment are outside the scope of this document and are covered by IEC 60519-1, IEC 60519-4 and ISO 13578. This document is applicable for commissioning, verification of design improvements or tasks related to energy use or energy efficiency, establishing energy baselines and labelling. Some concepts in this document can be used directly as key performance indicators. Detailed testing of specific types of arc furnace equipment and installations is outside the scope of this document. This document is intended to serve as a common reference for all future test standards applicable to specific arc furnace equipment or installations. This document includes concepts and material from IEC 60398 on energy efficiency, covering the electrical and process parts of the equipment as well as the overall performance. Test methods for some special equipment such as semiconductor converters are covered by IEC 60146-1-1 and furnace transformers are covered by the IEC 60076 series. The test methods for submerged arc furnaces (SAF) are covered by IEC 60683.
