Scope

This part of IEC 60335 deals with the safety of electric cooker hoods and other cooking fume extraction devices designed to be installed above, beside, behind or below domestic cooking stoves, cooktops and similar cooking appliances, with a rated voltage not exceeding 250 V, including d.c. powered appliances. NOTE 101 Cooking appliances may be powered by electricity or by other fuels, such as gas. Appliances not intended for normal domestic use but which may nevertheless constitute a danger to the public, such as those used in shops, light industry and on farms, are also within the scope of this standard. This standard addresses, as far as possible, the common hazards of appliances encountered by all people in and around the home. However, in general, this standard does not take into account the following situations: 　——persons (including children) who, because of reduced physical, sensory or mental abilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, are incapable of using the appliance safely without supervision or instruction; 　——children playing with the appliance. Attention is drawn to the following facts: 　——for appliances incorporating electrostatic air filters, IEC 60335-2-65 also applies; 　——for appliances designed for use in vehicles, ships or aircraft, additional requirements may be required; 　——in many countries additional requirements are prescribed by national health authorities, labour protection authorities, building authorities and similar bodies. This standard does not apply to: 　——equipment for commercial use (IEC 60335-2-99); 　——equipment used under special conditions, such as the presence of corrosive or explosive atmospheres (dust, steam or gas).
