With the rapid development of my country's coal industry, coal gangue, as a solid waste generated during coal mining and washing, has become an important issue in environmental protection and efficient resource utilization. GB/T 43761—2024 "Method for Calculating the Utilization Rate of Coal Gangue" came into being, providing a scientific basis and technical support for regulating the comprehensive utilization of coal gangue.
Coal gangue is an inevitable by-product of coal mining and washing. It is produced in huge quantities and contains high levels of carbon, silicon and other elements. For a long time, coal gangue has been mainly treated by stacking or landfilling, which not only occupies land resources, but also may pollute the surrounding environment. With the increasingly stringent environmental protection policies in my country and the promotion of the concept of resource recycling, the efficient utilization of coal gangue has become the key to the sustainable development of the coal industry.
This standard is jointly managed by the National Coal Standardization Technical Committee (SAC/TC 42) and the National Product Recycling and Utilization Basics and Management Standardization Technical Committee (SAC/TC415). It combines the latest research results of the Coal Industry Association, the Academy of Geological Sciences and universities, and aims to provide unified technical specifications for the calculation of coal mining stone utilization.

Coal gangue: refers to carbonaceous rocks produced during coal mining and washing, excluding open-pit coal mine stripping rocks.
Landscape remodeling: the process of using coal gangue to fill low-lying areas, subsidence areas and other land use functions according to local conditions.
Practical application case: A coal enterprise used coal gangue for land reclamation projects, which not only solved the problem of coal gangue storage, but also improved the surrounding ecological environment and achieved efficient utilization of resources.
GB/T 43761—2024 has made a number of improvements on the basis of the original standard. First, a more accurate calculation formula for coal milling stone utilization rate is introduced, clarifying the relationship between coal milling stone utilization (U), coal milling stone production (Q) and coal milling stone stockpile (Q₀). Secondly, the calculation method of the average coal milling stone utilization rate of multiple coal enterprises is added, providing industry managers with a more comprehensive evaluation tool.
1. Coal enterprises should strictly follow the standard requirements in actual operations and establish a complete account of coal milling stone production and utilization.
2. Enterprises are encouraged to explore diversified utilization methods of coal milling stone, such as power generation and building materials production, to improve utilization.
3. Government departments should strengthen policy support and technical guidance for the comprehensive utilization of coal and rock to promote the sustainable development of the industry.
