GB/T 31258 was revised in 2024 for the first time since its release in 2014. This revision mainly targets the technological progress and safety needs of the zip line industry, and introduces stricter safety regulations and advanced design concepts. The new standard focuses on strengthening the technical requirements for wire ropes, sliding equipment and braking devices to ensure the safety of the operation of amusement facilities.
| Clause content | 2014 version requirements | 2024 version update |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum diameter of wire rope | Load-bearing rope shall not be less than 8mm, traction rope shall not be less than 4mm | Load-bearing rope shall not be less than 12mm, traction rope shall not be less than 6mm |
| Pulley brake requirements | Single set of brake device | At least two independent brake devices |
| Safety distance specifications | When the local speed is ≤1m/s, the safety distance shall not be less than 300mm | Generally required to be ≥1.5 meters, in special cases it can be appropriately reduced but not less than 300mm |
The load-bearing rope must be a line contact or surface contact wire rope with a diameter of not less than 12mm. The inclination angle of the load-bearing rope of the unpowered traction cable should not exceed 15 degrees to ensure the safety of the equipment operation.
The passenger restraint device must be a full-body design that cannot be opened by itself to prevent accidental escape. The depth of the rope groove of the pulley should not be less than 1/3 of the nominal diameter D of the wire rope, and the side plate should not rub against the wire rope to ensure smooth operation of the wire rope.
Each zipline arrival station must be equipped with no less than two independent automatic braking devices to ensure smooth deceleration of passengers. The buffer pad size requirements are height × width ≥2m×2m, thickness ≥400mm.
The site selection of the zipline route must avoid dangerous areas such as military restricted areas and power line protection areas. The basic engineering design must comply with the provisions of GB 50010 and GB 50007 to ensure structural stability.
Give priority to steel wire ropes that meet the GB/T 8918 and GB/T 26722 standards to ensure that their mechanical properties meet the requirements of cableway operation. It is recommended to purchase equipment through formal channels and request relevant quality certification documents.
Establish a sound emergency management system and equip it with necessary rescue equipment. Organize employees to conduct emergency drills regularly to improve their ability to deal with emergencies.
The release and implementation of GB/T 31258—2024 marks that the zipline industry has entered a new era of safety. By strictly implementing the various technical requirements and specifications in the new standard, the safety of equipment can be effectively improved and the safety of life and property of tourists can be protected.
Related companies and institutions should attach great importance to standard updates, adjust production and inspection processes in a timely manner, and ensure that products and services meet the latest requirements. In the future, with the continuous advancement of technology and changes in industry needs, the zipline standards will be further improved to provide more powerful technical support for the development of the industry.
