Introduction

National Standard of the People's Republic of China GB/T 19964-2024

Technical Provisions for the Connection of Photovoltaic Power Stations to the Power System

Background of Standard Formulation and Analysis of Technical Evolution

GB/T 19964-2024 "Technical Provisions for the Connection of Photovoltaic Power Stations to the Power System" is a comprehensive revision of the original standard GB/T 19964-2012, mainly targeting the rapid development of photovoltaic power generation technology and the needs of safe and stable operation of power grids.

The technical evolution of this standard is reflected in the following aspects:

  • Added new technical requirements such as high voltage ride-through
  • Strengthened the specific indicators of fault ride-through capability
  • Clarified the accuracy requirements of power prediction
  • Detailed the monitoring and control measures for power quality
Technical requirements GB/T 19964-2012 GB/T 19964-2024
Active power control range ±5% ±3%
Dynamic reactive current support Unclear requirements Added dynamic reactive current proportional coefficient K1, with a value range of 1.5~3
High voltage ride-through capability No specific requirements Explicitly require that the operating time when the nominal voltage reaches more than 120% shall be no less than 1s

Implementation Suggestions

To ensure the effective implementation of the standard, it is recommended to take the following measures:

  • Strengthen model verification and accuracy evaluation in the design stage of PV power plants
  • Improve data collection and computing capabilities of power prediction systems
  • Configure necessary dynamic reactive compensation devices to meet support requirements
  • Optimize grid dispatching strategy to ensure system stability during fault ride-through

Practical application case analysis

Take a 100MW photovoltaic power station as an example:

In the case of a three-phase short circuit fault, the grid-connected voltage of the power station drops to 20% of the nominal voltage. According to the new standard requirements, the photovoltaic inverter and reactive power compensation device should be able to operate without disconnecting from the grid within 150ms. Through simulation analysis, it is found that the actual operation performance is better than the standard requirements.
