Introduction

Interpretation of the core content of the standard

Evaluation dimensions Drawbacks of traditional methods Innovations of DIN SPEC 91466-1
Quality inspection High error rate of manual sampling (±15%) NIR spectroscopy automated sorting verification (error <5%)
Efficiency calculation Only count the final recycling amount Value stream efficiency = Σ(actual recycling amount of each sorted product) / total potential recyclable amount of input materials
Document requirements No unified inspection list 31 mandatory inspection documents + 16 optimization indicators (such as logistics efficiency certificate)

Key points of technical implementation

Quality verification of sorted products must meet the following requirements:

  • Near-infrared sorting machines must be manually inspected and calibrated every six months (100 samples/80kg)
  • Mixed material objects are classified as >50% by mass
  • Unidentified materials are automatically classified as "miscellaneous plastics" or "impurities"

Background of standard evolution

This standard responds to the requirement of Article 16 of the German Packaging Act - the recycling rate of plastic packaging must reach 50% from 2024. By introducing the Value Stream Efficiency Index (formula: η=ΣVRecovery/(ΣVRecovery+ΣVLose+ΣVMismatch)), the sorting process is driven from a "output priority" to a "quality and efficiency balance."
