Introduction

Analysis of the core content of the standard

This standard applies to flexible microporous insulation materials (FMI) for industrial equipment, which achieve thermal insulation performance through a nano-scale porous composite structure (mixed inorganic powder, fiber and sunscreen). The product is delivered in the form of flexible coils or sheets and must meet the physical and chemical properties requirements specified in Chapter 4.

Technological evolution and innovation

Compared with the previous generation standard, the 2024 version has the following major updates:

  • New flexibility test method (4.3.8), requiring a 300×300mm sample to be bent 90° without cracking in a 21.3mm diameter pipe
  • Refine the thermal conductivity test temperature gradient (Table 2), and add a new high temperature test point of 500℃
  • Introduce microbial resistance test (ISO 846), which must be verified by 5 fungal strains

Compliance Implementation Recommendations

Factory Production Control (FPC)

Establish a quality control system in accordance with the requirements of Appendix A, paying special attention to:

  1. Thermal conductivity test needs to be retested every 6 months (Table A.1)
  2. The maximum production batch shall not exceed 7 days of continuous output
  3. Thickness measurement must be carried out under a pressure of 250Pa

Marking Specifications

The product packaging must include: FMI-ISOXXXX code, nominal thickness value, production traceability code and fire rating. Example:

Industrial Application Cases

In petrochemical pipeline insulation:

  • ST(+)1000 grade material is selected to cope with high temperature steam
  • ISO 12624 test ensures chloride ion content <25mg/kg to prevent stress corrosion of stainless steel
  • Flexible properties allow fitting of special-shaped pipe fittings (test method 4.3.8)
