BS ISO 5288:2024 is the official implementation standard for the UK terminology system for synchronous belt drives as an alternative to ISO 5288:2017. The standard was developed by ISO/TC 41/SC 4 Technical Committee, and the main update is the addition of the Symbol Definition chapter (Chapter 4).
| Terminology | Definition points | Chart corresponding |
|---|---|---|
| Synchronous belt drive system | Composed of at least one synchronous belt and pulley, transmitting synchronous motion through tooth and groove engagement | Figure 1 |
| Center distance (C) | The shortest distance between the two pulley axes under a specified measuring force | Figure 1 |
trapezoidal toothed belts (3.2.2.1) and curved toothed belts (3.2.2.2):
Typical applications: Curved teeth are suitable for high-speed and heavy-load conditions, such as automobile engine timing systems
| Geometric parameters | Definition formula | Measurement method |

| Pitch circle diameter (d) | d =
