Introduction

Analysis of the core content of the standard

BS ISO 24163-1:2024 is the UK's national conversion standard for ISO 24163-1:2024, which was developed by the AUE/4 Technical Committee (Automotive Tire and Wheel Committee). The standard fills the gap in the industry with systematic specifications for TPMS snap-in valves.

Key parameters and technical specifications

Component categories Core requirements Typical parameters
Valve body size Divided into three types: VB1-VB3, length 33-43mm Nut thread 10V2 or M11×0.75
Seals Including rubber washers, T-type washers and O-rings O-ring diameter 11mm (ORV2 type)
Valve core Short core type (H01) is recommended Nickel-plated original parts must be used
Installation torque Divided into two levels: A/B 3-5Nm or 7-9Nm

Technical requirements for rim interface

Chapter 12 of the standard clearly states that the rim valve hole must meet the following requirements:

  • The tire side edge must be rounded or chamfered (≤0.5mm)
  • Radial stripes are not allowed in the plane area
  • The parallelism of the inner and outer planes is recommended to be ≤0.2mm
  • The valve hole plane diameter ≥15mm (tire side)/14mm (outside)

Typical application case: The rim of a German car model uses GV2 T-type gasket with VB2 valve body, the measured sealing pressure reaches 600kPa.

Standard Evolution and Industry Impact

This standard unified the interface specifications of TPMS valves for the first time, solving the problem of incompatible sizes among manufacturers. Compared with ISO 9413 (ordinary valve standard), the main differences are:

  1. Added TPMS module adaptation requirements
  2. Strengthened seal durability indicators
  3. Specified the maximum pressure level of 830kPa

Implementation suggestions

Key points of quality control:

  • The valve body material should be made of aluminum alloy that resists electrolytic corrosion
  • The seals need to pass the -40℃~85℃ temperature cycle test
  • It is recommended to add anti-loosening marks on the nuts

Maintenance specifications:

  • The seal status must be checked when changing tires
  • Non-original valve cores are prohibited
  • Torque wrenches need to be calibrated every quarter
