Scope
This document specifies the interoperability requirements between systems used for the management and/or control of irrigation facilities. It can be applied to any technology platform and irrigation system, regardless of the water management scheme, but does not include irrigation mobile machines, such as center pivot and linear irrigation machines. Due to the dynamic nature of these machines, the associated control systems and specific safety requirements, the applicability of the exchangeable data for mobile systems of irrigation machines has not been fully determined at the time of publication of this document. This document does not define the hardware or software requirements for the systems to which it applies. It only refers to externally visible interfaces and does not restrict the underlying implementation. It is designed to avoid interference with proprietary solutions protected by intellectual property rights. From the data exchange point of view, and based on the aforementioned premise to ensure interoperability, this document defines three communication interfaces (with management interface, event interface and subsystem interface) and the architecture that these interfaces apply to. Three architectural levels are defined to accommodate these interfaces: ——Management level: Any Management Information System (MIS) compliant with this document is located at this level. From all available data exchange methods, each MIS implements only the methods required for its functionality. — High-level control level: coordination. Data integration between RMCSs and their access control are performed at this level. A software element called a coordination agent ensures this integration and allows the use of different technologies in its interface. — Low-level control level: RMCS. These can also be called irrigation subsystems. The RMCS performs the duties of the irrigation entities under its control. The coordination agent can be developed as a product by any manufacturer or by independent developers using standard specifications for such software.
