Introduction

Analysis of core requirements of the standard

This standard is formulated for cement mortar lining sealing coatings of ductile iron pipes and fittings, and mainly controls the interaction between the coating and the fluid. The main technical changes of the 2024 version include:

  • Adopting the X-cut method to replace the original cross-cut method for adhesion testing
  • Adding a new quality assurance appendix F to clarify the performance test list
  • Revising the short-term/long-term sealing efficiency test method

Material hygiene requirements

Sealing coatings that come into contact with drinking water must provide a hygiene certification that complies with Section 4.1.4 of ISO 2531:2009. Test water preparation requirements:

Precise formula: Add (0.0278±0.0005)g CaCl₂ and (0.0428±0.0005)g NaHCO₃ per liter of distilled water, and stabilize the pH at 8.0±0.1.


Implementation suggestions

  1. New production lines need to complete a full set of performance tests (short-term/long-term sealing efficiency, cyclic pressure)
  2. Routine inspection for each batch should include: visual inspection, coating thickness (wet film/dry film), adhesion test
  3. The test film method is preferred for thickness measurement (error ≤5μm)

Technology evolution analysis

This standard reflects three major technological trends: 1) Improved quantitative accuracy of test methods 2) Durability assessment conditions are closer to reality 3) Quality control system structure. In particular, a clear verification path is proposed for the long-term protection of soft water delivery pipelines.
