Introduction

Analysis of the core content of the standard

BS ISO 10109:2024 is the third edition of ISO 10109, replacing the 2015 edition. The main updates include:

  • Revision of existing standard environment classifications
  • New standard environment types
  • Additional examples of standard environment test selection (Appendix B)

Environmental testing standard framework

Standard environment types Temperature range Typical application scenarios
Environment 1 -55°C to +30°C Polar non-protected locations
Environment 6 -20°C to +50°C Temperature zone outdoor precision measurement
Environment 10 -145°C to +55°C High altitude environment (80,000 meters)

Test parameter selection guide

The standard provides a four-dimensional test selection framework:

  1. Optical instrument usage scenario classification (11 standard environments)
  2. Test item combination (5 major categories such as climate/mechanical/chemical)
  3. Operation status (transportation/standby/operation)
  4. Post-test status classification (AD level)

Application Case: Test Suite for Outdoor Equipment

For optical measuring equipment used outdoors in temperate climates, a typical test suite should include:

  • Temperature cycling (-20°C to +55°C)
  • Steady-state rainfall (20mm/min)
  • Random vibration (20-150Hz)
  • Salt spray corrosion (4 hours)

Technology Evolution and Implementation Recommendations

Compared with the 2015 version, the new version mainly strengthens:

  • Extreme environmental parameters (such as high-altitude low temperatures up to -145°C)
  • Compound test method (temperature + vibration simultaneous test)
  • Pollutant type (new chemical corrosion tests such as H2S/SO2)

Implementation suggestions:

  1. Prioritize the selection of the corresponding standard environment classification according to the equipment usage scenario
  2. Adopt a step-by-step testing strategy (from single test to composite test)
  3. Pay attention to the newly added test code 22 (cold and hot + random vibration) in the standard
