Introduction

Key changes to the standard

Comparison dimensions 2003 edition 2024 edition
Referenced standards ISO 15607:2003 Updated to ISO 15607:2019
Key clauses 8 clauses Delete original Chapter 8 and integrate it into Chapters 5-7
Scope of qualification General description Explicitly reference ISO 15614 series and other special standards

Core requirements for historical experience certification

According to Chapter 6 of the standard, an effective historical welding experience certificate must meet the following requirements at the same time:

  • Documented inspection data: Including complete records of non-destructive testing, destructive testing, pressure testing, etc.
  • Manufacturing cycle certificate: At least 1 year of welding production summary report
  • Service performance certificate: More than 5 years of trouble-free service record (except for special working conditions)

Application Case: Pressure Vessel Welding Certification

A manufacturer uses submerged arc welding equipment to produce pressure vessels. According to this standard:

  1. Collate the radiographic inspection reports and blasting test data of similar products for the past 7 years
  2. Welding parameter records of 3 typical batches were extracted as the basis for pWPS
  3. WPQR certification was obtained after review by WEE/36 Technical Committee

Qualification Scope Definition Specification

Chapter 7 clearly states that the qualification scope of different welding methods should refer to:

Welding process Reference standard Typical coverage
Fusion welding ISO 15614 series Base material thickness ±25%, welding position, etc.
Arc stud welding ISO 14555 Diameter change ≤±3mm
Friction stir welding ISO 25239-4 Aluminum alloy thickness ±1.5mm

Implementation suggestions

Document system construction

It is recommended that enterprises establish a three-level document management system:

  1. Basic archive layer: original test report, process parameter record
  2. Analysis report layer: Annual welding quality trend analysis
  3. Certification document layer: WPQR organized in the format of this standard

Transitional response

For enterprises that have passed the 2003 version certification:

  • Complete the standard conversion before July 2024
  • Focus on supplementing service performance data (if applicable)
  • Update referenced standards to the latest version
