Introduction

Analysis of the core content of the standard

BS EN ISO 105-C12:2024 is an alternative version of ISO 105-C12:2006. It adds sodium percarbonate as an optional reagent and adjusts the pH control range. The standard is applicable to the color fastness evaluation of various textiles processed by equipment such as industrial washing machines.

Comparison of test methods

Test number Temperature control pH range Bleach type Applicable scenarios
1S 92±2℃ 12.0-12.5 None Workwear evaluation
2S 75±2℃ 12.0-12.5 None Bedding/tablecloth
1P 75±2℃ 11.0-11.5 Hydrogen peroxide Colored decorative white workwear
2P 75±2℃ 10.0-10.5 Sodium perborate+TAED Colored decorative white workwear

Key Technology Updates

Main revisions to the 2024 version include:

  • Added Sodium percarbonate as a substitute for sodium perborate (Clause 5.6)
  • Specified that 30% is the mass fraction of hydrogen peroxide (Clause 5.3)
  • Adjust the size of multi-fiber interlining fabric to 80mm×100mm (Clause 7.2)
  • Change the original Appendix A from informative to normative

Actual application case: After a workwear fabric was tested using the 2P test procedure, the color difference reached level 4 after 5 cycles of testing, meeting the requirements for multiple industrial washing of hospital uniforms.

Implementation recommendations

  1. Before testing, the sample must be weighed with a balance with an accuracy of 0.01g (Clause 6.5)
  2. The detergent must be prepared and used immediately, and the hydrogen peroxide should be used immediately after addition (Clause 8.1.2)
  3. Before evaluation, the humidity must be conditioned for 4 hours in ISO 139 standard atmosphere (Clause 8.2.6)
  4. It is recommended to use the standard detergent provided by Ecolab (Appendix A)

Test report requirements

The report must contain 11 elements (Clause 9), especially the following:

  • Whether acetic acid post-treatment was performed (Clause 8.2.3)
  • Drying method (air drying/ironing) and temperature
  • Number of cycles (default 1 time ≈ 5-10 times industrial washing)
  • Color change at the crease
