Introduction

Scope of application of the standard and technological evolution

This standard applies to smart bathroom equipment with a rated voltage of ≤250V, including 7 types of products such as smart toilets and flush seats. Compared with the 2002 version, the main changes are:

VersionCore changesScope of impact
2002 versionBasic safety requirementsTraditional electric toilets
2021 versionNew software evaluation requirementsSmart products with program control
A12:2023Application of test probe 19Upgrade of anti-electric shock protection

Analysis of key safety requirements

Electrical safety

  • Protection level: Toilet products must at least meet IPX4 waterproofing
  • Leakage current: Bare heating element water heating equipment ≤0.25mA (test method see Figure 101)
  • Insulation requirements: Excrement contact areas are designed according to pollution level 3

Mechanical safety

Case: The seat ring needs to pass the 21.103 clause test:

  1. 1250N vertical force cycle test 20,000 times
  2. 890N lateral force alternating test 10,000 times

Abnormal operation protection

ComponentsNormal temperature rise (℃)Abnormal temperature rise (℃)
Human body contact surface2336(metal)/55(non-metal)
Drying hot air4065
Rinsing water temperature≤45≤65

New requirement 19.101: The risk of simultaneous startup of multiple heaters/motors due to program failure must be evaluated

Implementation recommendations

Design phase

  • Metal supports should adopt Class II structure or be reliably grounded
  • Vacuum toilets must implement a cover closing linkage mechanism (22.104)
  • Rubber seals must pass a 100°C mineral oil immersion test

Certification preparation

  1. Prepare a salt spray test report (IEC 60068-2-52)
  2. Complete software evaluation documentation (Annex R)
  3. Mark safety warning labels (Clause 7.101)

EU Compliance Guide

This standard meets the core requirements of the Low Voltage Directive 2014/35/EU, and establishes a corresponding relationship through Annex ZZA:

  • Protection against electric shock: Clauses 8, 13, 16, and 27
  • Mechanical hazards: Clauses 20 and 21
  • Overheat protection: Clauses 11 and 19
