Introduction

Core changes in the standard update

Item 2012 Edition 2024 Edition
Scope of application Limited to bunk beds Extended to loft beds (≥600mm)
Safety barrier height Unspecified measurement benchmark Measured from the maximum thickness mark of the mattress≥160mm
Ventilation requirements No quantitative indicators ≥35cm² and distributed in multiple locations

Key safety requirements

4.1.1 Structural design

All accessible edges must be rounded, and vertical protruding parts must meet any of the following conditions:

  • Horizontal continuous dimension ≥300mm
  • Vertical height difference ≥600mm
  • Protrusion measured at 45° oblique line ≤5mm (when dimension ≥50mm)

4.1.4 Protective barrier

Safety barrier must meet the following conditions:

  1. Upper edge ≥260mm from bed base
  2. Opening width 300-400mm (maximum mattress thickness must be permanently marked)
  3. Distance between adjacent retaining parts ≤7mm or 60-75mm

Test Verification Points

6.4.3 Structural Strength Test

After applying horizontal outward static load:

  • The bed base assembly shall not break
  • The permanent deformation of the safety barrier shall be ≤5mm
  • The fasteners shall not be loose

6.5 Stability Test

The free-standing bed shall pass the 10° tilt test, otherwise it must:

  • Provide wall fixing devices
  • Mark warning signs

Implementation Suggestions

Design Optimization Direction

  1. Adopt trapezoidal ladder design, with tread depth ≥90mm
  2. The platform stairs shall be equipped with double-sided handrails (height 600-850mm)
  3. Bed base gap is controlled by 25/75mm dual standard partitions

Compliance marking

Must be permanently marked:

  • Manufacturer information
  • EN 747-1:2024 standard number
  • Maximum mattress thickness marking line
  • Prohibited warning for children under 6 years old (≥25mm×25mm pictogram)
