Introduction

Interpretation of the core content of the standard

Technical parameters Type A (medium density) Type B (high density)
Warp density (roots/25mm) 24-144 21-108
Weft density (roots/25mm) 33-34 38-42
Minimum breaking strength (N) 445-2513 200-1957

Material Property Specifications

The standard clearly requires that glass fiber tape must be made of 'E' grade electrical glass fiber yarn without free alkali metal salts. Organic materials can be added during the manufacturing process to improve weaving performance, but the content must be controlled within <4.0% (pass D4963/D4963M test).

Key Test Methods

  • D3775: Determination of fabric density (1 measurement across the entire warp direction, 3 measurements in the weft direction)
  • D5035: Breaking strength test (CRE tensile testing machine is preferred)
  • D1777: Thickness measurement (6.35mm presser foot, 5.5N pressure)

Key Quality Control Points

The standard adopts the ANSI/ASQC Z1.4 sampling plan. The permitted defects include: - Major defects AQL=0.65/100 units - Total defects AQL=2.5/100 units For the determination of typical defects, please refer to Table 7 of the standard. For example, holes and broken yarns ≥50mm are considered major defects.

Standard Evolution Analysis

Main updates in this version (2024):
1. Added width tolerance grading for glass fiber tape (<25.4mm±0.8mm, ≥25.4mm±1.6mm)
2. Clarified that test data from CRE and CRT tensile testing machines are not comparable
3. Updated D7018/D7018M terminology reference versions

Implementation Recommendations

  1. The type code of glass fiber tape should be clearly marked during procurement (e.g., ECC-B for electrical grade/continuous warp/dense weave)
  2. It is recommended to conduct random inspections of organic content for each batch to prevent contamination in post-processing steps
  3. For critical application scenarios, suppliers may be required to provide control charts
