Scope
This part of is 15366 specifies procedures for separating and chemically purifying uranium and plutonium contained in the dis olution solutions of irradiated fuels in light water reactors as well as in samples of highly radioactive liquid effluents from of irradiated fuel reprocessing plants, with a view to their is topic analysis by the mass spectrometry method (see is 8299) or by the alpha spectrometry method (see is 11483). This part of is 15366 describes a separation technique slightly different from that of is 15366-1, based on the same chemis ry but using smaller columns, different support material and specific purification steps, applicable to samples containing quantities of plutonium and uranium in the nanogram range and below. The detection limits were found to be 500 pg for plutonium and 500 pg for uranium. Appendix A describes column preparation and column support materials.
