Scope

This part of is 5636 specifies the Gurley method for determining the air permeability of paper and board using an air resis ance tester, the Gurley apparatus. The method is applicable to paper and cardboard whose air permeability is between 0.1 micrometer/(Pa.s) and 100 micrometer/(Pa.s) when tested using a Gurley apparatus. It is not suitable not for papers and boards with a rough surface, which cannot be properly secured to prevent leakage. This part of is 5636 may also be used to determine the air resis ance of papers and boards.
