Scope
This standard specifies a group of functions known as the Graphics Kernel System (GKS) for computer graphics programming. GKS is a basic graphics system for application programs, using it to generate computer-generated two-dimensional images on line-drawing graphics output devices or music grid graphics output devices. It supports the operator's input and interactive operation through basic graphic input and graphic segmentation functions. It allows storage and dynamic modification of images. A basic concept of GKS is the workstation, which consists of several output devices and a single output device. Several workstations can be used simultaneously. allows applications to adjust themselves to make the best use of the workstation's capabilities. This International Standard includes functions for storing and retrieving external graphic files. All features are organized in levels of upward compatibility as capabilities increase. Note: For parameters of some functions, the GKS standard specifies the range of values reserved for registration, and the meaning of these values will be defined by established and procedures. GKS defines the kernel of a language-independent graphics system. In order to integrate with a programming language, GKS will be embedded in a language dependency layer, which follows the specific conventions of the language.
