Scope
This standard applies to machinery installations used in places of assembly and in staging and production facilities for events and theatrical productions (stage machinery, for short). Such facilities include: theatres, multi-purpose halls, exhibition halls; film, television and radio studios; stage areas in concert halls, schools, exhibit halls; bars, discotheques, open-air stages; and rooms for shows, events, cabarets and variety shows. The standard applies to stage machinery with guided or unguided load bearing and load carrying equipment. For the purposes of this standard, machinery installations are all technical installations and equipment used for operations in stage and production facilities in the entertainment industry. Such installations are used to lift, lower, suspend and carry loads (e.g. scenery, traverse systems, or lighting, film/video and sound equipment). They may also be used to move persons, and persons may stand under such equipment while the loads are at rest or in motion. Examples of machinery covered by this standard are listed below: - lighting bars and batten lights; - movable lighting towers; - projection screens (manual or motor-driven); - movable stage platforms; - stage wagons (stage trucks); - revolving stages and turntables; - electrical and electronic equipment; - flying systems; - guiding tracks in the stage floor; - cycloramas; - hycraulic and pneumatic power supply systems; - orchestra elevators (lifts); portable scaffolds; movable proscenium arches; -- scenery storage elevators; - scenery hoists, bar hoists (manual, motor-driven); - point hoists; - auditorium elevators; - tiltable stage floors; - side stage and rear stage shutters; - stage elevators. This standard also applies to machinery installations based on new technologies or specially designed instal- lations which are not expressly mentioned here but which nevertheless operate in an identical manner to the equipment listed above. It also applies to safety-related equipment used for similar safety purposes in the facilities listed above, in which case the safety function takes priority. For the purposes of this standard, safety-related equipment is all technical equipment used in staging and production facilities to avert imminent hazards. NOTE: Safety-related equipment includes - stand-by power and safety lighting systems; - smoke extractors; - safety curtains. This standard does not apply to - machinery installations which are used for artistic purposes only, or - manual hoists (Icad capacity -< 20 kg).
